Bill would cause rise in minimum car insurance premiums

ORANGEBURG, S.C. A bill increasing the minimum amount of liability insurance drivers must carry could mean premium increases of as much as 18 per-cent.
Governor Mark Sanford has –NOT– said whether he will sign the bill that passed the House last week.

The legislation increases the minimum liability coverage that drivers are required to buy to 25-thousand dollars for bodily injury for each person injured in a wreck up from 15-thousand.

Drivers will have to have a minimum of 50-thousand dollars for all people injured, up from 30-thousand. And property damage will have to increase to 25-thousand dollars from 10-thousand.

A survey of insurance agencies shows the coverage changes would require premium increases of 32 to 100 dollars a year.
