After 17 years in Lansdale‚ Clemens Family Markets’ 18th Lansdale Borough Car Parade & Show
The event‚ which showcases as many as 700 vehicles‚ always began as a parade in Lansdale from Main Street to the North Penn Business Park and ended with festivities in the parking lot.
Construction expected at the park this fall has made the parking lot unavailable‚ said Clemens Spokesman Mark Clemens.
“We discussed with Mayor (Michael) DiNunzio about other options in Lansdale‚” said Clemens. “Unfortunately‚ we could not come up with a viable area that could accommodate that many cars.”
The dangers of parading the classic and race cars‚ tractors and go-carts down busier streets to the Towamencin Corporate Center on Bustard Road this Sept. 17 made the corporate sponsor “uncomfortable” and forced the local supermarket chain to scrap the parade‚ said Clemens.
“We will sadly miss having the parade portion of the show and traveling down Main Street in Lansdale‚ which makes this show rather unique‚” said Clemens. “We have in place a great venue at the Towamencin Corporate Center.”
Disc Jockey “Luke the Duke” will spin music and food will be available. The event begins at 12:30 p.m.
Members of borough council are disappointed to see the show‚ which began as Clemens’ 50th anniversary in Lansdale‚ leave.
Councilman James Daneker said he’s uncertain of its future. If the business park is further developed‚ it’s likely the space won’t be available.
Daneker couldn’t elaborate because the borough has been in litigation with Stoltz Management’s Freedom Properties L.P.‚ which owns and operates the park‚ for almost two years.
Registration for the car show is ongoing.
Although participants can register the day of the show‚ Clemens suggests registering ahead online at www.clemensmarkets.com or by calling (877) Clemens.
