Car review: new BMW 5 Series

The new BMW 5 Series has been updated and developed substantially, helping enhance the external appearance and highlight the car’s aesthetic quality by applying new innovative interior designs, ensuring the highest levels of comfort and luxury.

The BMW 5 Series retains its six and eight cylinder range of engines and features additional improvements to the body styling, including a redesigned front fascia and new all white headlights and rear lights. The BMW 5 Series redefines interior luxury with the addition of new materials including pearl colour chrome, premium upholstery, superior hand rests, two-colour interior for doors and new key knobs for some of the equipment plus a new design of the gear knob. The boot capacity has also increased to about 500 litres.
Two engines are on offer for the new BMW 5 Series - the six-cylinder engine, peaking at an astonishing 282bhp, and the eight-cylinder, 362bhp power unit. All models come with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission, with an available Sport option. Rear wheel drive also comes standard, while the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system is also available on select models.
The BMW 523 is equipped with a 6-cylinder, 24-valve, 2.5-liter engine that produces 190 hp and 235 N/m of torque at 3,500rpm. The BMW 525 is powered with 6-cylinder, 24-valve, 3.0-liter engine that produces 218 hp and 270 Nm at 2,400rpm. Featuring a 272-hp, 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, the BMW 530 is available in either rear-wheel or xDrive all-wheel drive systems. Both BMW 540 and BMW 550 models are equipped with 4-litre and 4.8-litre eight-cylinder engines, producing 300-hp and 367-hp respectively. Both vehicles are available in rear-wheel drive system and six-speed automatic transmission.
Further improvements on the BMW 5 Series include a new automatic 6-speed gearbox with available SMG transmission and electronic gear selection. Additional BMW technologies included in the new model are active cruise control system and lane departure warning system, night vision system, head-up display, onboard navigation system, and an 825-watt BMW DIRAC (Dual Input Room Acoustics Calculator) audio system able to use CDs, MP3 players and USB sticks to store and play music.
