The independent automotive warranty specialist used the opinions of the nation’s top motoring journalists and combined them with data held on the reliability of more than 60,000 vehicles.
The British-built Avensis Verso recieved the most votes across eight categories out of the 40 models shortlisted.
The Nissan X-Trail and Honda Jazz came second and third overall in the poll to claim the 4×4 and Supermini of the Year titles respectively.
The Small Family award was given to the Honda Civic, which recently made the news after a handbrake recall issue. Low frequency of failure and low running costs were cited as the main reasons for its being held in high regard.
The Ford Mondeo was the highest-polling non-Japanese vehicle was voted the Family Car of the Year.
“Once more, Japanese cars have proven to be top of the tree when it comes to buying a used car,” said Duncan McClure Fisher, Warranty Direct managing director.
“Not only are they consistently the most reliable cars on the road, but they clearly tick all the right boxes when it comes to appealing to the buying public.”
