Audi makes A4 more efficient
Audi is fitting new 2.0 TDI diesel and 2.0 TFSI petrol engines in the A4 line-up, with deliveries of these models from next month.
The 120bhp/214lb ft 2.0 TDI (from £22,150) joins the 140bhp 2.0 diesel already on offer. It returns 55mpg and emits a tax-friendly 134g/km of carbon dioxide. In the A4 saloon, it gives a top speed of 127mph and 0-62mph in 10.7 seconds.
At the other end of the A4 range, there’s the turbocharged, direct-injection 2.0 TFSI petrol (£24,625). Related to the latest 1.8 TFSI already on offer, it gains variable valve-lift technology and variable camshaft profiling which reduces fuel consumption by around 5% compared to the previous 2.0 TFSI unit.
Power output is 208bhp, with a maximum 258lb-ft of torque from 1,500rpm, giving 155mph and 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, yet 42.8mpg and 154g/km.
Both front-wheel-drive and Quattro four-wheel-drive versions of the 2.0 TFSI will be available, both with six-speed manual transmission though the Multitronic CVT gearbox will be optional from the end of the year in FWD models.
